Africa Day 2026: Morocco urges concrete action to advance Africa–Germany partnership

During the celebration of Africa Day in Berlin, Morocco’s Ambassador to Germany, Zohour Alaoui, called for “moving to action” to give concrete substance to the Africa–Germany partnership, stressing the need to turn commitments into tangible results.

Speaking at the event held at the Federal Foreign Office, in the presence of German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, the Moroccan diplomat underlined that the time has come to move beyond reflection and into effective implementation of cooperation strategies.

Ms. Alaoui, who is chairing for the fourth consecutive year the Africa Day Committee of the Group of African Ambassadors accredited in Berlin, noted that the celebration marks the 1963 creation of the Organisation of African Unity, the precursor to the African Union, a major historical milestone for African states.

She also welcomed the organization of the event at the headquarters of Germany’s Foreign Ministry, viewing it as a strong signal of Germany’s growing interest in Africa and its willingness to strengthen a partnership based on mutual respect and shared interests.

Referring to an “extremely shifting” geopolitical context, the ambassador said these changes could offer opportunities, urging both Africa and Germany to seize the momentum to deepen cooperation.

She emphasized the importance of going beyond declarations of intent by operationalizing cooperation strategies and building a high-quality, trust-based relationship as a key condition for sustainability.

“It is no longer just about expressing the desire for a stronger and more balanced partnership, but about assuming shared responsibility in achieving and optimizing common interests,”

she said, highlighting the need for coordinated action to address shared challenges.
