As part of the operation to assist populations affected by the floods in Ksar El Kébir, the National Summer Camp Center located in the Diplomatic Forest of Tangier has been hosting, since Tuesday, several hundred people evacuated from high-risk areas.
With a total capacity of 600 people, the facility, located near the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center, is currently accommodating around 400 flood victims from Ksar El Kébir who were forced to leave their neighborhoods threatened by the rising waters of the Loukkos River.
On site, MAP observed the significant mobilization of local authorities, security forces, the Moroccan Red Crescent and all stakeholders involved, to ensure organized accommodation and provide urgent assistance to those affected.
The center is equipped with appropriate infrastructure and has been arranged into two separate pavilions, one reserved for women and children and the other for men. Each area is fitted with all necessary facilities to ensure decent living conditions and preserve the dignity of the victims.
Since their arrival, and despite the heavy rainfall also recorded in Tangier, those sheltered have benefited from essential services, including food, clothing, blankets, medicines and first aid when needed.
A logistics area has also been set up to prepare and distribute aid supplies, particularly blankets, clothing and all essential equipment required by families staying at the center.
In addition, a health center and a pharmacy have been made available to the victims. Both are equipped with the necessary medical equipment and a wide range of medicines, with special monitoring provided for people suffering from chronic illnesses.
In a statement to MAP, the regional coordinator for relief and emergency services of the Moroccan Red Crescent in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, Mohamed Ajbari, said that the organization’s presence at the center is part of its core mission to support public, health and military authorities in emergency situations.
He also highlighted the considerable efforts made by the teams to ease the psychological burden on those affected, noting that the reception center includes an advanced medical unit dedicated to medical interventions and first aid.
Basic care is provided directly at the center, while more complex cases are transferred to hospitals in close coordination with health authorities. He stressed that the Moroccan Red Crescent has highly qualified rescuers specialized in disaster and risk management.
He further praised the sustained efforts of public authorities to ensure appropriate reception conditions for the victims and to mobilize the necessary human and logistical resources to safeguard their dignity.
For their part, several victims of different age groups expressed their satisfaction, in statements collected by MAP, with the good conditions provided at the center. They commended the efforts of local authorities and all stakeholders to guarantee decent living conditions, while awaiting the stabilization of weather conditions and a gradual return to normal life in Ksar El Kébir.
This operation is part of the solidarity-based approach adopted by the authorities to address the repercussions of this exceptional weather event and alleviate the suffering of the populations affected in Ksar El Kébir.
It should be noted that evacuation operations for residents of Ksar El Kébir are continuing at a sustained pace toward safe cities and areas located outside the Loukkos basin, notably Fnideq, Larache and Tangier.
