ONEE launches MAD 206 million project to secure drinking water supply in Al Hoceima and Driouch

The Office National de l’Électricité et de l’Eau Potable (ONEE) announced the commissioning on April 22 of a new raw water conveyance system supplying the water treatment plant in Al Hoceima from the Oued Ghiss dam. The project aims to strengthen and secure drinking water supply for the provinces of Al Hoceima and Driouch.

With a total investment of approximately MAD 206 million, financed by a loan from the African Development Bank, the project includes the installation of 33.6 kilometers of transmission pipelines with diameters ranging from 600 to 700 mm. The infrastructure is designed to transport a flow rate of 500 liters per second to the treatment station.

The project also features a modern remote management system enabling efficient operation and monitoring of the water conveyance infrastructure.

This initiative is part of the National Program for Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation 2020-2027, whose agreement was signed on January 13, 2020 before King Mohammed VI. The project will help secure drinking water access for more than 400,000 residents.

According to ONEE, the initiative will also contribute to improving living conditions for local populations and support the socio-economic development of the region.
