US President Donald Trump on Thursday announced the appointment of Adam Telle as acting Secretary of the Army, replacing Dan Driscoll, who resigned earlier this week.
“I am pleased to announce that Adam Telle, the current Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, will become Acting Secretary of the Army, effective immediately. He is a great patriot, respected by all,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Prior to his appointment, Adam Telle had served since August 2025 as the 14th Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works. In that capacity, he oversaw policy and supervision of civilian programs carried out by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), including commercial navigation, flood management and national infrastructure.
According to US media reports, Dan Driscoll’s resignation, after around 18 months at the helm of the Army, came amid strong behind-the-scenes tensions with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, particularly over the Army’s modernization priorities.
The appointment of Adam Telle comes as the Trump administration continues to reorganize the US defense establishment and pursue its priorities regarding military modernization and the strengthening of the armed forces’ capabilities.
