Morocco : Gaming Becomes a New Export Industry

Morocco’s first official participation in Gamescom 2026 marks a new step in the internationalisation of the country’s video game industry. The Kingdom presented a national pavilion bringing together 11 Moroccan studios, with the aim of attracting investors, publishers and international partners.

Gaming is gradually becoming part of Morocco’s industrial and digital strategy. Participation in Gamescom 2026 provided an important platform for strengthening the international presence of Moroccan studios and opening access to global markets. Eleven national studios showcased their creations, including eight from the Video Game Incubator programme and three selected from among the winners of Morocco Gaming Expo 2026.

Morocco is therefore seeking to build a structured industry capable of going beyond the domestic market. The objective is to produce and export digital content, attract foreign investment and develop partnerships with major international publishers. Intellectual property also represents a new potential source of value for Moroccan companies.

A Young but Highly International Industry

Morocco Gaming Expo 2026 attracted more than 80,000 visitors, with participants from 24 countries and around 100 Moroccan exhibitors. The event also brought together 48 international investors, confirming the emergence of an ecosystem that is still under development.

Morocco aims to strengthen its position as an African and MENA gaming hub. Training is a key pillar of this strategy, while incubation programmes support emerging studios and help develop their capabilities. International cooperation can facilitate access to technologies, skills and global markets.

The sector also offers opportunities for skilled employment in programming, design, animation, storytelling and artificial intelligence. The real challenge, however, is now to convert international visibility into contracts, investment and exports. Ultimately, Morocco aims to develop companies capable of creating, developing and marketing their own intellectual property on global markets.
