Morocco will be strongly represented at the CAF Awards 2026, following the announcement on Wednesday by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) of the nominees in the various men’s categories of the prestigious continental awards.
The ceremony, scheduled for December 7 in Lagos, Nigeria, will bring together leading figures in African football to celebrate the outstanding individual and collective performances that have shaped the continental game this year, according to a CAF statement.
The nominations come at the end of a particularly eventful year for African football, marked notably by the hosting of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, the record participation of African national teams in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as well as CAF’s interclub competitions.
Ten candidates have been shortlisted in each of the seven men’s categories: African Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Men’s National Team of the Year and Club of the Year.
In the African Player of the Year category, Morocco is represented by Achraf Hakimi, the reigning titleholder, alongside compatriots Ibrahim Diaz and Ismaël Saibari.
For the Goalkeeper of the Year award, Moroccan internationals Yassine Bounou and Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti are also among the contenders, in recognition of goalkeepers who have made their mark through performances in major continental and international competitions.
The Interclub Player of the Year category features three Moroccan nominees: Mohamed Rabie Hrimat (AS FAR), Mounir Chouiar (RS Berkane) and Sofiane El Moudane (Olympic Safi).
These nominations recognize performances in CAF’s interclub competitions, particularly the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
In the coaching category, Moroccan managers Mohamed Ouahbi and Walid Regragui have both been shortlisted for Coach of the Year, reflecting the achievements of Moroccan football on the international stage.
Morocco’s emerging talents are also in the spotlight, with Abdellah Ouazane and Ayoub Bouaddi nominated for Young Player of the Year, an award highlighting ten promising African footballers who have distinguished themselves at club and national team level.
In the Men’s National Team of the Year category, Morocco’s senior national team is among the contenders, following its qualification for the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup for the second consecutive edition, according to the source.
Morocco is also represented in the Club of the Year category by three teams: AS FAR, Renaissance Sportive de Berkane and Olympic Safi.
Through these numerous nominations, Morocco highlights its presence across the different dimensions of African football, from individual performances to club and national team achievements.
The CAF Awards 2026 will celebrate the players, coaches and teams whose performances have contributed to making this year another major chapter in African football.
