Donald Trump says U.S. offensive in Iran will end soon

U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the American military offensive in Iran will end “whenever he decides,” adding that there is “virtually nothing left to strike” in the country.

In an interview with the U.S. news outlet Axios, the occupant of the White House stated, “As soon as I want it to stop, it will stop,” predicting that the military campaign would end “soon.”

The U.S. president, who has repeatedly suggested in recent days that the offensive against the government in Tehran could conclude in the near future, said that most military targets had already been hit.

Amid soaring oil prices threatening the global economy and concerns about the impact of a prolonged conflict on countries in the region, the U.S. chief executive said earlier this week that the offensive against Tehran would only be “a short excursion.”

According to the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), the U.S. military has struck more than 5,000 targets during the first ten days of its operation against Iran, which began on February 28.

Among the targets were more than 60 Iranian vessels as well as Tehran’s air defense systems. U.S. forces also targeted ballistic missile facilities, missile and drone production sites, and military communication networks, the command said.
