CAN 2027: Mohamed Ouahbi to Announce Morocco Squad This Thursda

Morocco national team head coach Mohamed Ouahbi will announce, on Thursday, September 17, the list of players called up for the Atlas Lions’ first two matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The announcement is expected to take place during a press conference at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora.

The Atlas Lions will begin their qualifying campaign against Gabon on Friday, September 25, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. They will then travel to South Africa to face Lesotho on Tuesday, September 29, in Bloemfontein.

Ouahbi’s first squad for these qualifiers will be closely watched, as it comes at the beginning of a new cycle for the national team and will provide an initial indication of the coach’s choices for the upcoming official fixtures.

The Moroccan coach will have to take into account the form of his international players, potential injuries and the individual situations of several members of the squad.

The 2027 AFCON will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Morocco will be looking to make a strong start to its qualifying campaign by securing positive results in its opening two matches.

The squad announced on Thursday will therefore offer a first glimpse of Mohamed Ouahbi’s plans for the next chapter of the Atlas Lions’ journey.
