Mohammed Tarik Bchir Officially Appointed Head of Morocco’s Treasury and External Finance Department

Morocco’s Ministry of Economy and Finance has officially installed Mohammed Tarik Bchir as Director of the Treasury and External Finance Department (DTFE), marking a new milestone in his career within the Kingdom’s financial administration.

The appointment follows his interim leadership of the department, a role he had held since March 2025 after the departure of Faouzia Zaâboul. His nomination was approved by the Government Council chaired by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, in accordance with Article 92 of the Moroccan Constitution.

A seasoned figure within the Ministry of Finance, Mohammed Tarik Bchir previously served as special advisor to Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah. He is also a former member of the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF), where he built extensive expertise in public finance management and macroeconomic policy.

During his interim tenure at the DTFE, Bchir oversaw several strategic financial operations, including preparations for Morocco’s return to the international sovereign debt market through a euro-denominated bond issuance aimed at supporting the Kingdom’s major infrastructure and development projects.

Recognized for his expertise in public finance and economic governance, Mohammed Tarik Bchir has represented Morocco at various international economic forums and financial meetings. He recently participated in the Conference of African Finance Ministers held in Tangier under the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, where discussions focused on innovation and technology as drivers of economic transformation across the continent.

His official appointment comes at a time when Morocco is facing major economic and financial challenges, including financing large-scale infrastructure projects, accelerating structural reforms, and strengthening the Kingdom’s financial sovereignty amid global economic uncertainties.
