Speaking on the sidelines of the summit, Trump described his relationship with Erdogan as one of strong mutual understanding, emphasizing Turkey’s strategic importance within the Alliance. His remarks underscored Washington’s interest in maintaining close cooperation with Ankara on regional security and defense issues.
At the same time, the U.S. president reiterated his long-standing criticism of European NATO members, urging them to shoulder a greater share of the Alliance’s defense burden by increasing military spending.
