The ONEE has signed a strategic agreement with the EBRD to establish a €250 million financing programme aimed at modernising Morocco’s drinking water production infrastructure.
The financing, structured in two tranches and accompanied by investment grants and technical assistance, is intended to enhance the performance of existing facilities while improving energy efficiency and strengthening resilience to climate change impacts.
The letter of intent was signed by Tarik Hamane, Director General of ONEE, Matteo Patrone, Vice President of the EBRD, and Saïd Jabrani, Director General of the SNGFE, in the presence of Mohammed Tarik Bchir, Director of the Treasury and External Finance Department (DTFE).
The agreement was concluded on the sidelines of the EBRD Annual Meetings held in Riga, during a high-level meeting organised under the supervision of Morocco’s Ministry of Economy and Finance, involving Tamwilcom.
This partnership is part of ONEE’s 2025–2030 investment plan, which includes major upgrades to drinking water production systems, improved technical performance, and stronger energy efficiency standards.
Faced with climate change challenges and evolving operational demands, ONEE is adopting a flexible and adaptive implementation approach to enhance the resilience of its water infrastructure.
Since 2014, cooperation between ONEE and the EBRD has mobilised nearly €119 million for Morocco’s drinking water sector, reinforcing a long-standing partnership in support of national water security.
