Health: 15 Hospital Projects to Be Completed in 2026 to Strengthen Healthcare Supply in Morocco

Morocco is continuing its healthcare system reform with the announcement that 15 hospital projects will be completed across different regions of the Kingdom during the year 2026.

In a statement to the press following a meeting of the Steering Committee for the reform of the national health system, chaired by the Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, the Minister of Health and Social Protection Amine Tehraoui said that these projects will strengthen healthcare provision with around 3,000 additional beds, contributing to improved territorial equity.

The minister stressed that these efforts are part of an ongoing strategy to modernize healthcare infrastructure and bring medical services closer to citizens, particularly in underserved areas.

He also announced the completion of a program to upgrade 1,400 primary healthcare facilities, alongside the launch of a new initiative to rehabilitate 1,600 health centers, including 500 planned for 2026.

Regarding digital transformation in the health sector, a pilot phase of the emergency medical assistance system has been launched in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, with plans for gradual nationwide expansion.

The minister also highlighted the modernization of the “Chikaya Santé” digital platform, aimed at improving communication with citizens, handling complaints, and ensuring transparent follow-up. This includes the introduction of a shared electronic medical record and the generalization of electronic prescriptions.

Technical work on these digital platforms has been completed, paving the way for pilot testing before nationwide deployment, in accordance with the applicable legal framework.

In addition, a unified digital platform integrating data from both the public and private sectors has been finalized, along with the deployment of 250 field investigators across the Kingdom to update and verify data.

The government will continue to finalize the legal and organizational frameworks necessary to ensure the effective and coherent implementation of this major healthcare reform.
