A new chapter is opening in Morocco’s efforts to equip its youth with the skills of the future: the city of Tangier has been selected to launch a national program introducing children to digital culture and artificial intelligence (AI).

The inauguration ceremony, held in Tangier, was presided over by Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, and Mohamed Mehdi Bensaïd, Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication.

Objectives and Scope

This program aligns with the Kingdom’s strategic digital agenda, particularly the Maroc Digital 2030 strategy. Its objectives include:

• Introducing children from an early age to fundamental concepts of digital technology and AI, such as algorithmic logic, visual programming, problem-solving, and responsible use of technology.
• Bridging the digital divide by extending access to these skills to children in both urban and rural areas.
• Stimulating creativity, innovation, and critical thinking, preparing the next generation for the digital world.

Implementation

The program is based on a framework agreement signed on March 8, 2025, between multiple ministries and the Moroccan International AI Center – AI Movement (affiliated with Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and UNESCO-labeled) to coordinate implementation.

The initial phase will take place in twelve cities covering all twelve regions of the Kingdom. Each location will host interactive training sessions, immersive workshops, and age-appropriate challenges. A team of 65 trainers from local youth centers has already been trained to lead this pilot initiative.

Challenges and Prospects

Beyond mere technological introduction, the program is designed as a lever for social and economic transformation. By training children early, Morocco aims to develop an agile workforce capable of thriving in a rapidly evolving digital world. It also serves as a tool to strengthen national digital sovereignty and position the country as a continental innovation hub.

The success of this pilot phase in Tangier and other cities will be crucial for expanding the program nationwide.
