Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, met on Monday with his Honduran counterpart, Mireya Agüero de Corrales, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to the Moroccan news agency MAP, the two ministers discussed several issues of common and regional interest, as well as ways to strengthen and promote bilateral cooperation between Rabat and Tegucigalpa.
The meeting comes amid a broader round of diplomatic encounters organized alongside the UN General Assembly, which brings together representatives of member states in New York. Officials from both countries used the talks to explore opportunities to consolidate relations and coordinate on regional questions.
The discussions also took place against the backdrop of shifting positions on the Western Sahara file. In April, Honduras announced it was suspending its recognition of the “SADR,” a decision that Mireya Agüero de Corrales formally communicated to Nasser Bourita in an official letter, according to MAP.
The New York meeting underscores the evolving diplomatic relationship between Morocco and Honduras and their stated willingness to deepen cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
