Morocco’s Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, held talks on Thursday, July 16, 2026, in Rabat with French Prime Minister Mr. Sébastien Lecornu, on the sidelines of the 15th Morocco–France High-Level Meeting.
The meeting took place as part of the French Prime Minister’s working visit to Morocco, leading a high-level French delegation, with discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties and monitoring joint commitments between the two countries.
The talks were attended by several senior officials from both sides, including Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Ambassador to France, Ms. Samira Sitail, as well as France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jean-Noël Barrot, and France’s Ambassador to Morocco, Mr. Philippe Lalliot.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch highlighted the particular importance of the High-Level Meeting, which takes place within the framework of the new momentum characterizing Morocco–France relations, driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron following the French President’s state visit to Morocco in October 2024.
The Head of Government emphasized that the Enhanced Exceptional Partnership established on that occasion opened a new chapter in relations between the two countries, based on deeper cooperation across several strategic areas.
Mr. Akhannouch noted that the 15th Morocco–France High-Level Meeting serves as a key governmental mechanism for monitoring and steering this partnership, assessing progress made in implementing commitments agreed upon at the highest level, and identifying new structuring projects that will shape the next phase of privileged relations between Morocco and France.
The meeting is taking place amid an unprecedented strengthening of political relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic, particularly following the historic evolution of France’s position regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue.
Both countries aim to further consolidate their strategic cooperation through shared initiatives and a common vision in addressing regional and international challenges.
