A high-level Moroccan delegation carried out a working visit to the United States from April 14 to 16, on the occasion of the 14th meeting of the Morocco–US Defense Consultative Committee, marking a new step in the strengthening of bilateral military ties.
Led by the Minister Delegate in charge of National Defense Administration and the Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces, the delegation held high-level talks in Washington with senior US officials, in the presence of both countries’ ambassadors. Discussions focused on advancing cooperation in defense, the defense industry, and cybersecurity.
Both sides praised the depth and durability of the longstanding alliance between Morocco and the United States, driven by the commitment of their respective leaderships. The visit also provided an opportunity for Morocco to highlight its role as a key actor in promoting regional and international peace and security.
Moroccan officials reiterated their appreciation for the United States’ position supporting Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, while also showcasing the Kingdom’s strategic initiatives, including the Atlantic African facade, the Morocco–Nigeria gas pipeline project, and its ongoing contributions to peace efforts, particularly in Africa and the Middle East.
Talks further reviewed the strong track record of military cooperation between the two countries, especially in training, knowledge exchange, and large-scale joint exercises such as African Lion. Both parties also explored ways to expand collaboration into emerging areas, notably defense industry development and cybersecurity.
At the conclusion of the visit, Morocco and the United States signed a defense cooperation roadmap for the 2026–2036 period, reflecting a shared determination to deepen and broaden their strategic partnership in response to evolving security challenges.
