Abdelmalek Essaâdi University (UAE) in Tétouan has strengthened its position as one of Morocco’s leading public universities in sustainability, ranking second nationally in the 2026 edition of the prestigious Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings.
At the global level, the university is placed within the 601–800 band, reflecting its continuous efforts to integrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across its core missions, including teaching, research, innovation, governance, and community engagement.
According to the university’s official statement, UAE was assessed across 11 of the 17 SDGs, highlighting the breadth and cross-cutting nature of its commitment to inclusive, responsible, and sustainable development.
The university achieved first place nationally in four key SDGs: Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Life on Land (SDG 15).
It also ranked second nationally in four additional SDGs: Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Life Below Water (SDG 14), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
This international recognition reinforces the university’s ambition to pursue excellence while contributing to Morocco’s national priorities and global sustainability commitments.
Abdelmalek Essaâdi University reaffirmed its commitment to making the SDGs a strategic pillar of its development by further integrating them into academic programs, research activities, innovation initiatives, and governance practices.
The Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings is currently the only global ranking that evaluates higher education institutions based on their contribution to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, assessing performance in teaching, research, knowledge transfer, governance, and societal impact.
