Trump Says Iran Port Blockade Will Only Be Lifted if a Deal Is Reached

US President Donald Trump stated on Monday that the United States will only lift the blockade imposed on Iranian ports if an agreement is reached with Iran.

“The blockade, which we will not lift until there is a DEAL, is completely destroying Iran,” the US president wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“They are losing 500 million dollars a day, an unsustainable figure for them even in the short term,” he added in a message sharply criticizing US media coverage of the conflict.

In a second post, the US president claimed that Iranian authorities have forced hundreds of ships to head toward the United States, mainly to Texas, Louisiana, and Alaska, to deliver their oil.

In a phone interview with Bloomberg earlier in the day, Trump said it was “very unlikely” that the two-week ceasefire with Iran would be extended if no peace agreement is reached before it expires.

The US leader also announced that Vice President JD Vance would leave later in the day to resume negotiations in Pakistan, which, according to him, are set to begin on Tuesday.

On Sunday, he accused Tehran of violating the ceasefire, which expires on Wednesday, by launching attacks on Saturday in the Strait of Hormuz.

Previous talks in Islamabad with a US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance ended in failure on April 12.

Faced with the continued US blockade of its ports, Iran announced on Saturday that it was resuming “strict control” of the Strait of Hormuz, reversing its decision from the previous day to reopen this maritime route, through which around one-fifth of global oil and gas trade normally passes.
