France Allocates Additional €655 Million to Accelerate Artificial Intelligence Development

The French government has announced an additional €655 million investment in artificial intelligence as part of its France 2030 program, reinforcing the country’s ambition to become a leading player in the global AI race.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu ahead of the opening of VivaTech, Europe’s largest technology and startup event, which is taking place in Paris.

The new funding package will support the development of digital infrastructure, computing capacity, research projects and industrial initiatives related to AI. The government aims to strengthen France’s technological sovereignty while accelerating the digital transformation of both public services and the broader economy.

In a statement published on social media, the Prime Minister described artificial intelligence as a technological revolution comparable to the advent of electricity and the internet, stressing that France intends to play a major role in shaping its future.

As part of this strategy, AI adoption will become a factor in government budget decisions. Ministries will be required to outline how they plan to use AI tools to simplify administrative procedures, improve public services and enhance operational efficiency while maintaining service quality.

The Ministries of Justice and Interior are expected to benefit this year from advanced AI solutions through the GenIAl public platform, which is already being used by the Ministry of the Armed Forces for sensitive data processing and the acceleration of certain administrative procedures.

The healthcare sector is also set to expand its use of AI. France’s national health insurance system plans to launch an AI-powered digital assistant on the Ameli platform to help guide users while ensuring that health data remains managed within the public sector.

In addition, the government plans to create a new public platform designed to facilitate access to demographic, economic, geographic and administrative data. The initiative is intended to support the development of AI applications and improve access to public data resources.

Artificial intelligence, robotics and digital sovereignty are expected to be among the key themes discussed during the 10th edition of VivaTech 2026, taking place from June 17 to 20 in Paris amid growing global competition in advanced technologies.
