U.S. President Donald Trump will attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on Sunday, where Spain will face Argentina, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on Thursday.
Speaking during a press briefing, Leavitt said Trump’s attendance would “cap what has been the most watched, safest, and most successful World Cup in the history of the United States.”
The U.S. president is expected to be present at the New York–New Jersey Stadium for the tournament’s final match.
The FIFA announced in late June that Trump would present the World Cup trophy to the winning team. The symbolic ceremony is expected to be conducted alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Spain’s King Felipe VI will also attend the final, according to the Spanish Royal Household, following Spain’s 2-0 victory over France in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Argentine President Javier Milei confirmed that he will not travel to the stadium. Instead, he will watch the match from the presidential residence, maintaining the same superstition he has followed throughout the tournament.
