Morocco and Argentina have significant economic potential that could elevate their bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership with continental reach, driven by economic complementarity and converging regional opportunities.

Speaking at the third edition of the Santa Fe Business Forum in Rosario, Morocco’s Ambassador to Argentina, Fares Yassir, highlighted the growing role of Santa Fe province in trade between Morocco and Argentina. Alongside Buenos Aires and Córdoba, Santa Fe is among Morocco’s key commercial partners in Argentina, particularly thanks to its strong agro-industrial base.

The complementarity between the two economies is reflected in mutually beneficial trade flows. Santa Fe makes a key contribution to Morocco’s food security through exports of cereals, oils and soybean derivatives.

In return, Morocco supplies Argentina’s agricultural sector with phosphate fertilizers, an essential input for improving productivity and agricultural yields.

Building on this mutually beneficial exchange, Yassir called for broadening and diversifying trade flows in order to make Argentina a leading economic partner for Morocco in South America.

Infrastructure and logistics at the heart of Morocco’s economic strategy

During his presentation, titled “Infrastructure and Logistics as a Driver of Industrial Acceleration in Morocco,” the Moroccan diplomat outlined the Kingdom’s strategy to leverage its geographical position and strengthen its integration into major global trade routes.

He highlighted the development of Morocco’s rail network, including the launch of Africa’s first high-speed train, as well as the expansion of the Tanger Med port complex on the Strait of Gibraltar, a strategic maritime hub connecting major international shipping routes.

The modernization of Morocco’s infrastructure — including railways, airports, industrial zones and free zones — has helped attract investment and accelerate the development of high-value-added industries, consolidating Morocco’s position as a leading automotive manufacturing hub on the African continent.

Argentina, for its part, is also strengthening its infrastructure and logistics networks. In this regard, Yassir stressed the importance of ensuring efficient connections between production centers and port facilities in order to improve access to international markets and enhance competitiveness.

A two-way strategic partnership

Against this backdrop, Morocco is seeking to build a strategic economic alliance with Argentina based on complementarity and mutual benefit.

The Kingdom aims to position itself as a gateway for Argentine companies seeking access to Africa, the Mediterranean region and the Arab world, while Argentina could serve as a platform for Moroccan businesses looking to expand into the Mercosur market and South America as a whole.

This geographical, industrial and commercial complementarity could open a new chapter in Morocco-Argentina relations, strengthening the two countries’ role as economic bridges between Africa and South America.
